“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God ‘s] own purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” (AMP)
~1Peter 2:9
I was preparing for church this Sunday morning and my mind was saturated with the question of what to share with the youth class for Sunday School lesson. The lesson was about the call of God and as I was meditating God impressed me on the three examples mentioned in the Bible: when God called Samuel which is the lesson scripture for the day, when God called Moses, and when Jesus called Saul. All three were called for a specific purpose in the saving of God’s plan of salvation. Samuel was called to be His prophet, Moses was called to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, and Saul was called to be His disciple. Each of the three were called in a special way: Samuel by God’s own voice, Moses by a burning bush, and Saul by a blinding light each revealing who He was that called them.
As God conveyed His message to me through these three examples God reminded me of His call for me to the ministry of prayer (intercession). Few months back I felt God was calling me for a much closer walk with Him for this special purpose. Later, He confirmed it with an amazing experience one morning when my husband, daughter and son were about to go to school together in one motorbike. I still remember myself opening the window curtain to watch them leave when I felt God prompted me to pray for them. I couldn’t understand why I have to pray again but it sent shiver inside that moved me to earnestly pray for their safety. That evening my daughter came home first and straightly came to ask if Father has told me anything. I said he was in a hurry and had very little time during lunch time. Then she said on their way to school that very morning a speeding van almost hit them.
I could feel her amazement and soberness when she was telling me how that only few inches gap was there between them and the van. I felt another shiver enveloped me and while I was trying to keep myself composed enough I told her how that God prompted me to especially pray for their safety that morning. I was on my knees in thanksgiving when she went out of the room.
I was taking my bath when God spoke to me about the key verse above and the phrase ‘a royal priesthood’ stood out and God spoke to me again, ” I am choosing you not to be relaxed in your calling. ” I walked to church with a heart empty for God’s leading but full of His quickening Spirit. I looked at the eyes of each one youth when I reached the classroom and I saw hungry souls and it hit my heart hard. It was one of those Sunday mornings when I felt the usual guiding Spirit of God giving me the utterance and seeing these precious souls with their faces and eyes down in reflection. The class was over and I felt blessed myself feeling that the message that I shared was for me as well. I was ready for the worship service and finding my usual seat when God, again impressed me about Job and prompted me to share this amazing experience as a testimony. In chapter one we read about Job rising up early in the morning to offer burnt offering for his children. God has spoken to me on the importance of parents erecting an altar to plead for grace and mercy for their children and other souls. Since that time that God called me to the ministry of prayer I couldn’t remember the countless times that God has prompted me to pray most of the time giving me names and sometimes with no names but I felt the feeling of urgency everytime. Many times I felt him waking me up at midnight or dawn to pray and each time was a meaningful one. Just the other Sunday God spoke to me through the life of Ruth in the Bible that He will not rest until he will perform the things He has promised to me.
We do not know how much our prayers mean to those who are in urgent and chaotic situations. God has chosen you to be a royal priest... a mediator in His kingdom. Please don’t underestimate the power of prayer and the weight of your calling.
